says skiers misinformed about plan
October 15, 2004 - Jackson Hole Local, WY - Bridger-Teton National Forest
officials dismissed comments opposing commercial guiding by the Jackson
Hole Mountain Resort on Teton Pass as misinformed. The Bridger-Teton
received 58 comments on proposed changes to the resort’s backcountry
guiding permit – the bulk of which opposed commercial guiding on Teton
Pass. But forest officials said most of the comments were
"misrepresentations of the facts" and "misperceptions of
the effects." The reasoning was articulated in documents released
with the decision to change the Mountain Resort permit, mostly in a
14-page "response to comments" paper.

plans to expand

three-year-old plan to expand skiing opportunities at Teton Pass Ski
Area may get off the drawing board and out onto the ski hill this year.
First phase would develop a temporary surface lift and four new ski runs
for intermediate to advanced skiers in the No-Name Peak area. But will
skiers see that new lift next year? "That's stretching it,"
cautions Teton board member John Stoltz. "We finish this game (the
ski year) before we go into the next one."

dies in avalanche near Teton Pass
February 02, 2004 - Billings Gazette, MT - JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - An
experienced backcountry skier died after being swept 1,700 feet down a
mountain by an avalanche, the first avalanche death in Jackson Hole this
winter. Ray Azar, 48, of Teton Village died Saturday of suffocation
after being buried for about an hour, authorities said.

devices to help prevent avalanches
December 16, 2003 - IdahoStatesman.com, ID - VICTOR — The Wyoming
Department of Transportation is ready to begin using two remote
controlled bomb-throwing devices to help reduce the threat of avalanches
on the highway that links eastern Idaho with Jackson Hole. Officials
believe the system installed on Mount Glory will improve safety on
Wyoming Highway 22 over Teton Pass between Wilson, Wyo., and Victor.
